On the doorstep of Europe, yet part of Asia, neighbour of the Russian Federation and, indeed, for a long time part of the Soviet Union, yet proudly independent, neighbouring muslim Turkey and Azerbaijan yet almost homogeneously Orthodox Christian, the country has several traits making it a special one. |
